Detective Eric Perez was born in Orange County, New York, and attended Middletown High School. After graduation, he earned an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Orange.

In 2003, seeking warmer weather and an opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer, Detective Perez relocated with his family to South Florida. He began his law enforcement career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Deputy before joining the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in 2005.

Throughout his career, Detective Perez has served in numerous specialized assignments and units, including the Tactical Bike Platoon, Crisis Intervention Team, Field Training Officer Program, Quick Response Force, Community Relations Response Team, Neighborhood Action Team, and Property Crimes Unit. He is also a certified Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Field Force Instructor, EVOC Instructor, and Simunitions Instructor.

Currently serving as the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Full-Time Recruiting Detective, Detective Perez is passionate about identifying, mentoring, and developing the next generation of law enforcement professionals.

Outside of his law enforcement career, Detective Perez enjoys spending time with his family, watching movies, and coaching wrestling. He is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a Brown Belt in Russian Sambo, and remains actively involved in teaching and training in the martial arts. He also serves as a local high school wrestling coach, where he enjoys helping young athletes develop discipline, confidence, and resilience both on and off the mat.
